As a nonprofit organization funded by the BC government and tasked with the mission of increasing the accessibility of British Columbia's workforce to all individuals, the President's Group sought to challenge the passive attitudes within business sectors. They aimed to do so by addressing the sensitive issue of disability measurement and encouraging open discussion and action on this topic.

I worked closely with the art director at HARC to review President's Groups existing brand, see where we wanted to expand upon it, and how we wanted to conceptualize the design of "Make it Count: Measuring for Disability", a printed seventy-plus page handbook.

By adopting the subtitle "Measuring For Disability," we allowed the design concept to draw inspiration from visual elements associated with measurement, like the markings on a ruler. These are scattered throughout on section title pages, case study pages and the cover (designed by Parker McLean). As you flip through the book you can easily spot where a new section begins with it's light blue background, and numbered visual tab. Case study pages are scattered throughout, each on a dark navy background to differentiate them from the rest of the content.

The handbook features a sans serif typeface with open, easily legible letterforms, and a monochromatic blue colour scheme throughout. Whenever possible we've highlighted important stats and details through pull-quotes. To establish a connection with the reader numerous photos were incorporated throughout the pages. We had to rely on stock photography for most of these, and made an effort to source photos showcasing a variety of disabilities in the workplace. The client provided a list of actionable for it's handbook readers, which we made use of on the inside cover, in the form of a dynamic graphic pattern. Once the printed book was finalized we choose select pull-quotes and stats and laid them out in a small, square format, for social media use.
