The Narwhal IV
print, layout
The Narwhal is a team of investigative journalists, who dive deep to tell stories about Canada’s natural environment you can’t find anywhere else.
This being the fourth print issue of The Narwhal, working off of a now very solid foundation, we had the opportunity to really push the layouts and have some fun with the design. Like the previous issue three, we introduced a new colour beyond the main brand colours; a sage green. Extra design attention was given to the article opener pages, making each unique to it's content. A new taller, more condensed typeface was introduced for title page headers, allowing for more design flexibility beyond the default brand serif font. Although each title page has it's own design features, the typefaces and brand colours remain steady, creating a consistent visual style throughout. Inspired by the collage/grid-like layout of one of the article opener pages, this grid design was also applied to re-design the table of contents, as well as the memebers page. A few new paragraph highlight styles and pull-quotes, as well as graphic elements add to the visual interest throughout.
