The Narwhal is a team of investigative journalists, who dive deep to tell stories about Canada’s natural environment you can’t find anywhere else.
This being the second issue of The Narwhal I got to work on, the editors and I looked over the first issue (view here!) and discussed a few areas where there might be room for improvement and growth. At a glance, the magazine may look the same but a lot of little things have been enhanced. The type size and hierarchy throughout was slightly modified and streamlined, the grid adjusted and custom one-off graphics created to highlight things such as reader-funded articles. Having an overall strong layout and structure throughout we spent a lot of time editing down the photos that made it into the final issue, making sure each visual enhanced the readers experience and visually represented the mood and feel each story told.
