PWIAS Annual Report
print, layout
Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies (PWIAS) reached out to me to help them re-launch and re-design their yearly annual reports. PWIAS draws together scholars from UBC and around the world to engage in deep and unconstrained research into some of the most profound questions and challenges facing humanity. The Institute seeks to encourage highly innovative, creative and unexpected scholarship through wide-ranging explorations between disciplines.
With many programs, roundtables, initiatives, exchanges, forums and special events, both with international and local partnerships, the PWIAS is a very busy Institute. Each facet of the PWIAS is featured in its own chapter across the 60+ page report. Inspired by its academic roots, the content is organized across a simple and minimal, primarily one-column layout, with a clear type hierarchy throughout. While consistent throughout, each section has its own special design considerations and details. Stories from past scholars, for example, are given a more editorial look and feel, featuring a slightly less formal layout on a tinted colour background.
Each year the report features a different brand colour across the design (see below the two different reports, one featuring navy, the other orange), making it easy to distinguish between them, keeping the design fresh, but otherwise consistent throughout.

"We hired Alicia to work on a print and web ready annual report for us. We wanted something new and exciting and she delivered 100%. She is very easy to work with, and very fast to respond and send revised items. I really like that she creates a project calendar and that she is serious about sticking to it -- it really made working on this complex project a lot easier. She is very organized but also very creative. We highly recommend working with her and will be looking to work with her again on future projects."
